How much do wedding videos cost?

Julia and Bob Wedding Film

Before you start reviewing quotes for wedding videographers, let’s review what impacts the cost of wedding videography. We want to give you a glimpse of what all goes into running a professional videography business (which has a big impact on the cost).

Like any industry, you will be able to find a wedding videographer below your budget, within your budget, or way over your budget.

Before you establish your budget for a wedding video or book with a videographer because they have a low price point, take the time to consider the factors that impact pricing.

Major Impacts on Pricing:

Your Location- There are high cost areas where weddings are generally very expensive. You will be paying more for florals, your venue, photography, etc. and video will be no different. Think LA, Miami, NYC, Aspen, DC, etc.

Their Experience- Videographers that have a strong portfolio and have continued investing in their education to better serve their client may have a starting price that is higher than others in their area.

Travel- If you are doing a destination wedding or looking to have vendors from other areas travel to you, be sure to consider the cost of their travel. Not all but some vendors are going to charge for the cost to fly in, mileage, hotel stay, etc.

Hours of Coverage-Every videographer is different. Some have established packages with hours included or some will have a build your own package method. Either way, the amount of time you want them to be filming the day of your wedding (6 hours or 12 hours) will impact the price.

Length of Film- Once all the festivities are done, videographers start the hard work. Editing! Editing a wedding film is a long creative process. The final length of your film (highlight, full feature, documentary edit, etc.) correlates to how long they will be editing. The hours they are editing will be reflected in the total cost of your film package. If you get a 5 minute highlight, it will not cost as much as an hour documentary edit.

For example, our collection costs begin at a $5,000 in the Midwest market. We can create custom collections with hours of coverage between 8 hours to over 12 hours with 2 videographers. Our collections could include a 5 minute highlight or a documentary edit. It all depends on what our couple is looking for and what they are willing to invest in a keepsake they will have for the rest of their lives to share with their family and friends.

At the end of the day, every couple has an ideal budget for their entire wedding they want to stick to. You may go over, or maybe under (if you’re lucky). Make sure you think through every decision before you sign contracts with your vendors. Specifically for videographers- look at their portfolio, have a meeting with them and make sure your personalities work together, review their film package offerings, and read their contracts before booking!
