How We Pick Wedding Film Music

Libby and Derek’s story, their reception music and their hotel black tie wedding details pushed us towards classic, old Hollywood music for their film.

The music and audio we select for our films are some of the most important decisions we make when editing.

If you ask any videographer in this industry what tasks takes the longest when editing, chances are “picking music” will be in the top 3 of their list.

So many factors go into picking music for a film.

We get to know our clients prior to their wedding day so we can understand the theme of their wedding, their personalities, and their favorite movies and music.

We pay very close attention to the music played during the ceremony and the reception.

While filming all day we can also start to feel the vibe of their wedding. The location, the colors, the personalities of their wedding party, their DJ, florals, decorations, etc. all help create a unique feeling for their unique wedding day.

We take all of this into consideration when browsing music. We want the music to perfectly match their story. We typically pick 3 wedding songs for a highlight film and for longer films, we add more songs into the mix. It is not an easy task. But it is a VERY important task.

The music we select has to be perfect for the creation and flow of our storyboard. Which is why we do not allow our couples to pick their music. We love to know what their favorite music is and we are always willing to take suggestions but most couples do not want to browse our professional licensing catalog for hours just to pick one song (and we always need more than one).

Sam and Kyle let us know early on that EDM and Texas Country music were a big part of their story. At their wedding they focused on their love of EDM concerts and created an entire EDM vibe during the reception.
