Unique Trends for Your 2023 Wedding

Erin and Jimmy, Winter Wedding in Indianapolis

As we look back on our amazing 2022 season, we wanted to gather a list of some of the fun things our couples did this year that made their wedding day extra special.

  1. Letters for your wedding party - This is a great way to say “Thank you” to those that have supported your relationship and are about to stand up next to you as you commit to each other. Write thank you letters to each other’s wedding party! We had a bride that wrote individual letters to each groomsmen and the groom wrote letters to each bridesmaid. They were a hit with everyone. There were lots of laughs and tears and this made the wedding party feel very appreciated.

  2. Room Reveal - Reception details are important! And they take a lot of time and thought to plan and bring your vision to life. As the couple, you often see your reception set up as workers are finishing setting up and then you enter for your grand introductions after all the guests have been seated. Scheduling a room reveal with your planner allows you to see the room after set up is complete, candles are lit, music is going, and no one has been seated. Schedule this right before your grand introductions so you have a few moments to look around with each other and a glass of bubbly to take it all in.

  3. Private Cocktail Hour - Hair and makeup, first looks, wedding party photographs, travel to different locations, ceremony, family pictures, reception introductions, first dances, toasts, oh my!! There are a lot of traditions that you are going to want to do on your wedding day. They are fun but it can feel like it is flying by as you work your way through your 10+ hour timeline. Having a private cocktail hour for the two of you (or even your wedding party) allows you to take a seat, grab a drink and some of those delicious hordourves you selected and chill before the reception. Most of our couples do not take the entire hour but 30 minutes or so to step away from the party and take it all in as you get ready for the reception party.

  4. Live Ceremony Music - You are out on a weekend and you see an amazing solo guitarist playing at a local bar. Why not book him for your wedding?! That is what one of our couples did. They had him play music before the ceremony as guests arrived and he played their processional music. The planner coordinated with the venue and DJ to make sure he had everything he needed. He also stuck around for cocktail hour for a few songs before the DJ took over.

  5. Thank You speech from the couple - Okay so this is not new to 2022 but growing in popularity and we love it! People are finding new ways to incorporate a speech or quick message to their guests on their wedding day. Often these are to say “Thank you” to all those that traveled and made it to your wedding day to celebrate with you. BONUS, this gives videographers another audio moment from you two to include in the film!
